Unlike my opponent who does not believe in government, I do. Government should provide a "ladder" for us to climb, and a
boost onto the first few rungs. I see these first rungs as good public
education, basic health care, protection of civil
rights and freedoms, a strong transportation and communication
infrastructure in which to grow and thrive, and a safe environment.
After that, how high you climb is up to you.
Caveat: For some of our fellow citizens, those unable to care for themselves due to
physical or mental disabilities, government must do more. Unlike Marty Hardy [R], former state rep, I do not believe the answer is "off to Siberia". We must restore the wait list for disabled adults. It is far cheaper [about $14,000 a year] to treat the mentally ill in the community than to imprison those who violate the law [about $30,000 per year].
